Ultimate Human and HULK

HULKS

Ok, first off is the four part searies Ultimate Human, written by Warren Ellis and Penciled by Gary Nord, this is a four part series that begins with one plea from the infamous Bruce banner to the billionaire genius Tony Stark “Save me.”

The book so far follows around two plot points.  The first and foremost so far being Tony Starks attempts to study and hopefully cure Banner of the hulk and second of the “Leader” focusing on capturing the Banner and Stark in order to turn himself into the “superman” that he already believes he is.

So far I’m enjoying the writing in this book, some of the descriptions are great including Stark referring to the Ironman Suit as “shiny flying metal pajamas of death”  that one gave me a bit of a chuckle.

The art takes on a bit of a surreal quality for me at times but show great movement in the characters.  It seems to me a bit of a departure from the Ultimate Ironman art but so far I like it.

The second book in this Hulk vs. Ironman free-for-all is HULK.  Writen by Jeph Loeb and Penciled by Ed McGinness this is a story of Tony Stark as Ironman and the director of S.H.E.I.L.D leading a team of investigators looking into the killing of a super villin by the name of Abomination.  The rest of the team consists of She Hulk, General Ross, and the green haired Dr. Leonard Samson.

In issue #1 the team comes across the Russian “Winter Guard” while investigating the beating a shooting of “The Abomination.” This encounter seems to have little purpose or weight in the story so far although it would be great to see the little skirmish between these to groups continue in the future, I mean who doesn’t want to see the She Hulk beat the hell out of a giant bear.

The second book consists of the big red Hulk attacking the S.H.E.I.L.D. hellacarrier and bringing it down Hindenburg style in New Jersey leaving behind more questions than answers in his wake.

The art in this book so far seem very clean along with great colors and I’m looking forward to seeing McGuinness’ interpretation of the classic Hulk monsters in future issues as well as getting a little bit more in the story from Loeb.

All in all two great books with two great Hulk vs. Ironman fights. Right now if I had to pick just one book it would be HULK because of all the big questions that really want answers to and the great art.
