How many people wanna kick some ass?

kick ass

From the days of putting a towel around my neck and running around the house with my arms out in front of me I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be a super hero.   In the new series KICK ASS from writer Mark Millar  (WOLVERINE,  FANTASTIC FOUR) and artist John Romita Jr. (AMAZING SPIDER-MAN) that’s exactly what the main character sets out to be and finds out why the “real world” doesn’t have superheroes… the hard way

This is a story of an ordinary kid that is a huge comic book fan and decides one day that he too can try to go out and fight crime as a masked super hero.  After ordering a suit and mask from eBay he spends the next few weeks just wondering around the city at night.  One night he finds some other kids spray painting a wall.  He steps in to stop them and he gets in a few good shots but in the end has his ass handed to him and then some.

In issue #2 we catch up with our “hero” recovering from a beating, knife wound, and being hit by a car.  His concern is mostly for his single father and how his actions will affect their lives.  Although after finding that his secret identity is still in tact he eventually puts the suit back on and continues to go out and find more trouble, only this time it ends a little more in his favor.

I enjoy the art in this book but I don’t think that is going to be the selling point for anyone on this, no this is about the story.  This book is about that “what if” what if you threw on that suit and went out to kick some ass in the name of justice?  What if it didn’t go the way that you pictured it in your head?  Would you have the guts to get out there and do it again even if the first time almost killed you?   This is a series that is defiantly going on my buy list and staying there for hopefully a long time.
